Pantelis Stathis MD PhD, Neurologist, was elected Assistant Professor of Neurology at the School of Health Sciences of the University of West Attica (2021). He is the head of the Department of Neurology of the Mediterraneo Hospital, Glyfada, Athens and Scientific Director of the Society Cerebral Palsy Greece-Open Door. Since 2003 he is a research associate of the Department of Neurosurgery, Medical School of the University of Athens, “O Evangelismos” Hospital and is involved in functional neurosurgery for movement disorders (Deep Brain Stimulation). His subjects are primarily the movement disorders.
From 1999 to 2012 he was a postgraduate lecturer at the Department of Pharmacy of the National University of Athens, on issues of Movement Disorders and Epilepsy,
He received postgraduate studies in movement disorders and invasive therapies for Parkinson’s disease and dystonia in the European Continuing Medical Training
(ECMT) program at Navarra University Hospital, Pamplona, Spain (2003), Kiel, Germany (2010) and Leuven-Belgium (2010).
He also participates in workshops in the field of movement disorders at Uppsala University Hospital, Sweden (2006), Institute of Neurology National Hospital of
Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, United Kingdom (2004) and Hadassah Hospital, Jerusalem,.
In 1996 he was awarded the distinction of Doctoral Thesis (PhD) at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He worked as a Researcher for 4 years (1992-1996) at the Laboratory of Experimental Pharmacology, National University of Athens.
He completed an internship in Neurology at the Medical School of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, at the Aeginite Hospital and at his medical studies at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
He has participated in many multicenter international clinical trials as a lead researcher. He has participated in over 150 scientific presentations at Greek and
International Conferences and 60 publications in international scientific journals. He has been a speaker at numerous scientific conferences. His work includes his participation in 3 international textbooks (Textbooks), as well as the forthcoming book “non-pharmacological treatments for patients with Parkinson’s disease”
From 2013 to 2017 and 2022 and at present he participates in the three-member Representation Committee of the Movement Disorders Division of the Hellenic Neurological Society.
He is also a founding member and general secretary of the Hellenic Academy of Neuroscience www.acne.gr.
